Steven has been recognized as one of the top Real Estate Agents in North America and is one of the few in that elite category that personally deals with all his clients.  Last year his team was #3 in all of B.C and #1 in production per agent.  He has a team around him to assist with marketing & administration and other  aspects of the business which he oversees. However,  Steven takes pride in taking care of all his clients through the milestone moments where he feels his experience & skills matter most.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1992 Steven was a member of the British special forces. Only one in fifty that start out with a dream of  earning a green beret get to finish up the Western World’s longest basic training and, become a Royal Marines Commando.  He is a firm believer that the principles of meticulous planning and high level of execution are what separates good from great whether it is in a military operation or in the highly competitive real estate market.

Steven loves his profession but is always the mindful of why he works so hard.  He is a family man with a passion for helping youth.  Quality of life for his family was the motivation for relocating from Edmonton to the Okanagan in 2008.  Steven is married with four children but is also involved in our community.  He has coached youth soccer at many levels since 1993 and is a supporter of several youth-based charities. Steven explains it's a family tradition;

“Growing up my family was not wealthy. In fact, we were the opposite until I was around 11 years old. But my parents always supported youth in the community through volunteer work. They did not have a lot  but they gave their time.  Eventually Mum and Dad got established  but to this day they are very well known for their amazing sense of community in my English home town. It’s a tradition I have always taken pride in continuing.”

Q & A with Steven

Why did you decide to be a REALTOR®?

Answer

When I first came to Canada, I was offered a job in Toronto as a bodyguard for a top bank executive but decided that was not for me. So, I bought a book called How to Master the Art of Selling written by Tom Hopkins who is a former a REALTOR® to read while on the plane to Edmonton. By the time I landed I had decided what I would sell Real Estate!  It seems like a big change but in reality, the two careers have a lot in common.  Few people ever succeed at a high level, you need to be prepared to work long hours under stress and failure is not an option if you want to complete your mission. Although nobody has ever shot at me during a real estate negotiation!

What is the best part of your career as a REALTOR®?

Answer

I have so many answers to that question! I love my job and have fun doing it.  Each day offers fresh challenges and opportunity unlike any that came before.  It's never boring! I also get to meet so many interesting and fun people from young first time buyers to CEO's and sports celebrities.  Most clients end up being friends too which is nice, but most important is the difference I can make for people.  I get to help people at some critical points of their lives when success is very important and the pressure is on. I love that kind of pressure, I really love it.  I think most fun of all is a challenge that nobody else could manage prior to my involvement, such as selling a home that failed to sell three times prior  and getting it sold so people can finally move on with their lives. That's a great feeling for both me and my clients and it's so rewarding.

What is the thing you dislike most as a REALTOR®?

Answer

Nothing really... But as a young man when I was first selling homes, I did not like how the business ran me. I never had time for family. But during my time away from real estate as a full time career, I was in the corporate world where I got world class training and eventually ran large teams spread out accross the globe. For the last 13 years in the Okanagan I have run my real estate practice like a business, with a proactive mindset and proven systems. I am at my desk by 4.30am and I can get more done before 9.00am than I used to achieve all day as a young man.

What is the funniest thing that you can tell us about you have encountered as a REALTOR®?

Answer

I honestly cannot tell you my top three! We see some crazy things in this job but I always decline to talk about them. Maybe when I retire I will write a book but I will have to change the names up!

Favourite Book, Food & Movie?

Answer

I love non-fiction books, I am PASSIONATE reader of sales, marketing, psychology and business books. I really love books about Winston Churchill.  I still read every day for at least 30 minutes I think we should never stop getting better or trying to be a better person. I love Indian food, but I like to cook Italian. My favourite movie is Good Will Hunting (RIP Robin Williams) but I love any movie that can make me laugh, cry or really make me think and still have me thinking the next day...

If you could have one superpower to help you do your job better what would it be?

Answer

I am tempted to say mind reader, but I read people very well already and that super power may take some of the fun out of my job. Maybe the ability to see inside homes anywhere anytime from my office. That would save me a LOT of time!

In ten words or less what would you like your clients to say about you to their friends, co-workers and family?

Answer

He genuinely cares, and gave us a measurable meaningful advantage.
